Our Story
A291
Origin
In 1994, a group of volunteers participated in helping after a devastating flood in southern China. Upon discovering the poor living conditions in the surrounding area, the volunteers established a school in Guangxi Province in an effort to raise local standards of living.
Later Development
Grace Charity Foundation Ltd. was founded by these volunteers in year 2000 as an NGO. (IRDHK File No. 91/6177), and registered as member of Hong Kong Council of Social Services in 2011.
Over the years, thanks to the generous support of individuals and organizations, our work has expanded to cover sixteen provinces/ city in mainland including Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Gansu, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Guangxi, Guangdong, Henan, Hunan, Hubei, Ningxia, Shanxi, Qinghai, Shandong, Chonqing and Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Why focus on Guizhou?
A study found the geographical environment of Guizhou Province to be especially stricken by poverty and few charities worked there in early 2000. The educational programs in mountainous areas were not well established, children not attending school were many, and poverty was widespread. Therefore, our organization decided to concentrate our resources on improving the education for children in Guizhou.
After years of hard work, a portion of the educational facilities were improved with over 1,500 schools/ dormitories/ educational buildings has been built. Educational aid has established also to help some financially struggling students who could not originally attend school. However, the environment in some poorer regions of Guizhou is still backward; different kind of aids and facilities are still needed. Hence, our organization has decided to continue focusing on Guizhou Province over these years.
New Developments
In addition to our regular operations in School construction & Facilities Aid, Educational Aid, Community Care and Livelihood projects, we have recently undertaken the following work scopes:
1. In 2011, we establish the “Serve Hong Kong Group” to support local vulnerable groups, care for the elderly, and engage in other public welfare affairs.
2. In 2022, “Grace Charity Academic Achievement Award” was established to encourage students who have put effort into their studies and shown significant improvement,
3. In 2023, we launched an “Afforestation & Desertification Control Project” in the Northwest region of Gansu Province to support and contribute to the region’s long-term ecological resilience as a sustainable initiative.
